Flow With Vickie

Slow Flow Yoga

A breath-based, mindful movement practice, the slower-paced sibling of Vinyasa and Ashtanga yoga styles.  Begin with some grounding breath practices, then move into a carefully sequenced set of yoga asana (postures) that flow together before finishing with some floor-based asana or a Yin Yoga practice. Slow flow yoga is an intentionally slower-paced class, aimed at helping both beginners and those who want to deepen their understanding of yoga. “Our yoga practice should have moments in which we can stop and feel what we are feeling. Like conversations, yoga practices should have quiet, thoughtful pauses during which we can consider and reconsider.”

Yin Yoga

A slow-paced and gentler style of yoga with longer holds and juicy stretches intended to increase joint mobility, hydrate fascial networks and strengthen & lengthen connective tissues. The practice is mostly floor-based with use of supportive props such as bolsters, blankets and blocks.

It’s also highly meditative and introspective, offering plenty of time and space for you to draw your awareness inside. Yin is a straightforward practice with fewer postures and simple sequencing, but it can have far-reaching effects on both your body and your mind. Ideal for beginners, those recovering from injury, or seekers of more meditative body-mind practices.

Qigong

An ancient mind-body practice incorporating movement, breath, meditation and self-massage, and mostly in standing or seated positions. Its origins lie in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Taoist philosophy. “Qi” means “vital energy” and “gong” translates to “skill cultivated through steady practice” and is practised to promote the healthy flow of qi and self-healing properties in our bodies.

Qigong is known to reduce stress and anxiety, promotes mobility and flexibility, strengthens joints and connective tissues, and can help reduce the sensations of pain and soreness. A great practice for those seeking a very accessible, gentler yet powerful movement practice.

Move and Meditate

This class combines the elements of yoga, qigong, breathwork (pranayama) and meditation into a beneficial mind-body practice suitable for all levels of experience. Mindful breathing and somatic movement creates the space for us to experience a more meditative state, allowing access to a deeper awareness of self and moves us toward greater overall wellbeing.

Release, Restore and Yin Yoga

A combination of traditional Yin poses and myofascial (MFR) release techniques, focusing on freeing up tension in the muscles and connective tissue, perhaps as a result of sporting activities or the way we hold stress, anxiety and emotions in the physical body. Expect to feel nourished, spacious and free both mentally and physically after the class.

Chair Yoga

This is gentle form of yoga practised while seated or standing with the aid of a chair. It is a very accessible practice for  people with limited mobility, older people, or those recovering from injury. The focus is on working with the breath, mindfulness in gentle movement.  Like other forms of yoga, chair yoga helps improve core strength, flexibility, balance and mobility, as well as helping reduce stress and ease tension in both body and mind.

Yoga Foundations

A class designed for beginners or those wanting to improve their yoga practice through slower-paced, alignment-based explorations of the yoga postures (asana).  Students are also guided through the basic principles of breathwork (pranayama) and meditation methods, in order to develop a more holistic approach to this ancient practice.

Pathways to Meditation

An exploration into alternate pathways to meditate. This class offers a range of methods of meditating to allow participants to experience different styles that don’t conform to preconceived ideas and stereotypes of the practice.  Learn how to observe and reflect on the meditations in order to develop and cultivate a practice better suited to the individual. Come to view meditation as accessible, creative and perhaps even fun/enjoyable, so that it can be practised with ease and regularity.
